Government Officials Recognizing and Celebrating #MentoringMonth 2021

A Congratulatory Message from the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, the Honourable Bardish Chagger

On behalf of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Government of Canada:

Young Canadians are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are also the leaders of today. They are bringing meaningful change to communities from coast to coast to coast, challenging the status quo, and taking the lead on building a more innovative, sustainable, and consciously more inclusive Canada for all.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all Canadians, and disproportionately certain segments, including young people. As we build back even better and stronger, mentoring helps youth in Canada access opportunities, build the skills they need for their future endeavours, and reach their full potential.

As we celebrate #MentoringMonth 2021, I want to express my appreciation for the work MENTOR Canada does, including the creation of Mentor Connector, the online Orientation for Mentors, and the development of the virtual Mentoring Platform.

As Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, on behalf of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate MENTOR Canada for the work they do in support of youth. I would also like to thank them for rising to the challenges posed by the pandemic in continuing to empower young people. Keep well and safe.

The Honourable Bardish Chagger

Words of Support from Local Governments and Municipalities

Proclamation by Bernadette Clement, Mayor of the City of Cornwall

Whereas Mentoring amplifies relationships, learning, and career opportunities. Over 15,000 young people across Canada are waiting for a mentor; and

Whereas Mentoring amplifies a young person's learning. Young people who are mentored are more than twice as likely to have completed high school and almost twice as likely to have pursued some further education after high school. Unlock a young person's potential; and

Whereas Mentoring amplifies careers. Let's give our young people the support they need to launch their careers.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That, I, Bernadette Clement, Mayor of the City of Cornwall, do hereby proclaim the month of January, 2021 as "Mentoring Month" in the City of Cornwall.

- Bernadette Clement, Mayor of the City of Cornwall
