Young Canadians to benefit from full-featured, safe, free e-mentoring solution

At a time when many youth have limited connection because of COVID-19 and physical distancing, a new collaboration between MENTOR Canada and MentorCity is bringing a safe, no-fee, audio, video, and text-based mobile accessible, e-mentoring platform to young people across Canada.

Early adopters will start testing the platform in May, with a full national roll-out in June 2021.

“Youth in Canada will use our new app to benefit from safe, secure, e-mentoring experiences. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, we are able to adapt and co-create a solution that will take global principles in e-mentoring for youth and make them available to thousands of young people in Canada. With public health restrictions and school cancellations, now more than ever, especially for rural, remote, and northern youth with limited connectivity, we must prioritize connection and relationships for young people.”

- Stacey Dakin, Managing Director at MENTOR Canada

“We are excited to partner with MENTOR Canada to expand and enhance mentoring opportunities for young people across Canada.

Young people have repeatedly requested anytime, anyplace mentoring experiences, and we are excited to scale our platform to help close the mentoring gap across Canada.”

- Shawn Mintz, President at MentorCity

The app will be fully bilingual (English and French), secure, hosted in Canada, and prioritize privacy protections. It is available on mobile devices and can accommodate one to one or multiple mentor/mentee experiences. Access to courses & mentoring activities are also available. Service providers will be able to access analytics, reports, and data to assist them in supporting these virtual experiences.

E-Mentoring working group

Since March 2020, we have convened an E-Mentoring working group that evaluated the suitability of platforms to the needs of small, medium and large mentoring service providers. Their feedback has informed our decisions.

Virtual Mentoring webinar

On April 8th, we hosted a deep-dive into Virtual Mentoring. We had 310 registrants join us to provide feedback into experiences, thoughts, hopes, and fears about alternative forms of mentoring. Access the presentation and slide deck.
